From its early origins in the 1960s, laser cutting has come a long way to become the fundamental component of sheet metal fabrication that it is today. Over the years, the process has been tweaked and refined, with modern day laser cutting highly advanced and more accurate than ever before. Here at DB Sheetmetals in Haverhill, Suffolk, we are proud to be at the forefront of the laser cutting sheet metal industry, offering our services to clients from a range of industries. Read on to find out more about the history of laser cutting, and about our industry-leading technologies.

Increased Precision

As a method of cutting through sheet metal, laser cutting emerged in the 1960s, developed by engineers and physicists. Initially, hot laser beams were used to cut through sheet metal and speed up processes. The carbon dioxide laser was invented in 1964 by electrical engineer C. Kumar N. Patel, which then opened the door to using laser beams for industrial sheet metal fabrication. Carbon dioxide laser cutting could be used on a range of metals including aluminium, stainless steel, and titanium, which led to the method being adopted all over the world due to its hands-free operation and increased precision.

Cutting-Edge Machinery

After over 30 years of sheet metal fabrication, we’re still focused on continuously looking to the future in terms of technology. Our revolutionary Amada LC-2415 Alpha IV laser cutting machine is at the cutting edge of the industry, allowing our experts to cut sheet metal with an extremely precise level of detail. Thanks to its high-quality fixed optics beam, and controlled lasers, we can make sure that each of our laser cutting projects is completed in record time and to our exacting standards. With this increased accuracy, applications of our laser cutting machinery has also expanded, to include even more intricate patterns and parts for clients.
